About Margaretville Hospital- Community Emergency Boxes
As a New York State Department of Health-certified Opioid Overdose Prevention Program, we are proud to provide Naloxone—an emergency medication that reverses opioid overdoses—to local fire departments, EMS, businesses, nonprofits, and community members. Opioid overdoses can happen in many ways: from recreational drug use unknowingly involving fentanyl, to individuals dependent on opioids after an injury, to accidental ingestions by children or seniors who forget they’ve already taken a dose. Fortunately, nasal Naloxone can rapidly restore breathing and save lives—whether the overdose was accidental or addiction-related. We believe life-saving medications like Naloxone should be readily available at all hours, especially in rural areas like Delaware County, where access to care is limited. To address this, we are installing custom-built, weatherproof, curbside-accessible emergency boxes in overdose hot spots across the county. These boxes contain Naloxone, condoms, first aid kits, and a built-in video player that provides 1-minute tutorials—available in English and Spanish—on how to administer Naloxone during an emergency. Everyone deserves a second chance. This initiative helps ensure that chance is never out of reach.
